Abstract

Abstract

This study comprises of 2 objectives namely: 1) to study the Doctrinal principles  in Anupada-Sutta and 2) to study the applications of the Doctrinal principles in the Anupada-sutta to the practice of Vipassanā Meditation.  This study is the analysis of the data from the  Scripture of the Three Baskets, the Commentaries, and the Sub-Commentaries including data  from the connected technical documents which were arranged and checked by specialists.  After which, the data will be further depicted.

From the study it is found that the Anupada-sutta is the Discourse mentioned by  the Buddha about the order in which Ven.  Sāriputta attained Enlightenment.  The achieved Dhamma that came from the Doctrinal principle in the Anupada-Sutta was the Dharmic state of Rūpajhāna and Arūpajhāna.  After reviewing said Dharmic states in terms of Vipassānā, it  becomes the 5 Aggrigates or the idea of form and designation.

The practice of Vipassanā of Insight Meditation in the Theravada Buddhist  Scriptures is to create wisdom in order to realize the true nature of form and designation.  The temperaments in practicing Insight Meditation is of the 6 Vipassanābhūmis.  The method of developing the state of Insight Meditation is through the practice of Satipaṭṭhāna which is the examination of the 4 bases; to see the body in the body, feelings in feelings, the soul in the soul and the Dhamma in the Dhamma.  The knowledge of these 4 bases is the knowledge of the Insight Meditation according to the principle of Satipaṭṭhana.

From the study in the application of the Doctrinal principle in regards to the   Anupada-Sutta, the practice of Insight Meditation is the mindfulness of the Dharmic state in the principle of Jhāna, which is the practice of the Insight Meditation in the form of Samathayānika.  Samathayānika is the lifting up of the soul from the Jhāna and then examining the principle of Jhāna in respects to the Three Characteristics.  It is to see the Doctrinal state of Impermanence that all things will arise, sustain for a certain time period, and cease to exist.  It is the specification  of Insight Meditation according to the principle of the 4 Foundations of Mindfulness through classification of the Contemplation of Feelings and the Contemplation of the Dhamma.  From this study, the researcher has found that the main point is in relation to every objective in this study.
